Lake Forest, Lake Bluff IL

Botox has become an increasingly popular method of reducing fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Aging is inevitable, but how soon you develop signs of aging and the severity of your wrinkles varies from person to person. Lifestyle choices, diet, sleep patterns, sun exposure, and genetics all play a role in how soon a person starts to age in their face. The good news is that Botox in Lake Forest can help turn back the hands of time and help you feel confident about your facial appearance. So today on the blog, Dr. Kate at Lake Forest Smiles shares how to tell if Botox is right for you.

Who is a good candidate for Botox?

Aging men and women alike often desire a youthful face with little to no wrinkles and defined facial features. Botox can help you achieve those beauty goals.

You might be a good candidate for Botox if you:

  • Have crow’s feet around your eyes
  • You have frown lines between your eyebrows
  • Your makeup collects and creases with facial movements
  • Your eyebrows are droopy
  • You have fine lines around your lips

There isn’t a rule of thumb or measuring system used to determine whether your fine lines and wrinkles are severe enough for Botox. Instead, the severity of your facial aging and your beauty goals will help Dr. Kate determine how many Botox injections you may need. Therefore, during your consultation with Dr. Kate, a Botox provider near you in Lake Forest, she will discuss these factors to help you achieve your best results.

How does Botox work?

Muscles and nerves in the face are responsible for facial expressions like smiling and moving your eyebrows when you squint or raise them. Unfortunately, as you age, those facial expressions exacerbate fine lines and wrinkles. However, Botox injections temporarily block facial nerves so that your expressions are less dramatic. Therefore, wrinkles are less noticeable when smiling, pursing your lips, or raising your eyebrows.

Dr. Kate injects this FDA-approved injectable at strategic areas in the face, like along the lip lines, eyebrows, or around the eyes, to achieve a younger-looking appearance. The needle used is as small as a hair follicle, and the procedure takes about 10 minutes or so, depending on the number of injections and areas being treated.

What should I expect after my Botox injections?

Immediately following your Botox injections, you may notice tiny little red dots at each of the injection sites. These markings should subside within a half hour. Mild bruising may also be noticeable, although it should subside within a few days. Be sure to discuss with Dr. Kate ways that you can help reduce your risk of bruising after Botox.

Some things to avoid include touching or massaging your face as this could disburse the Botox into unwanted areas and affect your results. It’s also a good idea to avoid exercising for at least 4 hours following your injections.

How about those results?

It may take up to three days before you see a noticeable difference in your appearance, with the maximum effect revealed around weeks three to four. Botox is not a long-term or permanent solution to facial wrinkles. Results may last several months or longer before you require another round of injections, although individual results may vary.
