A little extra protection can go a long way. Lake Forest family dentists Drs. David Schmidt and Tracey Hughes offer MI Paste as part of our preventive care program at Lake Forest Smiles. While at-home oral hygiene and routine dental cleanings are an essential part of maintaining a healthy smile, sometimes you need a little boost.
GET THE FACTS ON MI PASTE
MI Paste is a topical crème that patients apply directly to their teeth at home—preferably right after brushing their teeth before bedtime. MI Paste is non-toxic, water-based, sugar-free, and comes in an assortment of different flavors. MI Paste will not cause dry mouth.
MI Paste works so well thanks to its active ingredient, Recaldent, a milk-derived protein that releases calcium and phosphate ions. Recaldent binds to the surfaces of your teeth, where it releases calcium and phosphate ions that proceed to fortify your tooth enamel and the overall structure of your teeth. No other product on the market contains Recaldent.
HOW WE USE MI PASTE
Lake Forest Smiles supplies MI Paste, but you can administer treatments at home, at your convenience. Never use your toothbrush to apply MI Paste. Instead, put it on your teeth using either your finger or a cotton-tipped applicator. You only need to use a small amount. Then, using your tongue, spread it over as much of your tooth surface as possible. Let the paste remain on your teeth for at least three minutes, then spit out any excess. Abstain from any eating, drinking, or rinsing for at least 30 minutes.
We use MI Paste in any of the following treatment situations:
- As an additional layer of defense against tooth decay
- To relieve enhanced tooth sensitivity, such as before and after a dental cleaning, or professional teeth whitening procedure
- Remineralizing the small imperfections that occur naturally in teeth over time
- Repairing minor tooth wear and/or erosion
- As a safeguard against the formation of white spot lesions on teeth
IS MI PASTE RIGHT FOR YOU?
Any patient of any age can benefit from using MI Paste, including toddlers. In fact, Lake Forest Smiles may recommend MI Paste for children under the age of two. Why? The crème raises the levels of minerals in their mouths during this crucial stage of growth and development.
IS MI PASTE SAFE IF I AM PREGNANT OR NURSING?
MI Paste also is safe for women who are pregnant or new mothers who are breastfeeding. Protecting your oral health against the threat of cavities and gum disease is an essential part of prenatal care for both mother and baby.
WHO SHOULD NOT USE MI PASTE?
If you have an allergy to milk protein or benzoate preservatives, you should not use MI Paste.
