Get the facts on veneers

Made of a thin layer of dental porcelain, veneers cover the front of the tooth or teeth being treated. This thin facade of dental porcelain conceals any small imperfections in your teeth. Our laboratory matches the porcelain to the color of your other natural teeth for seamless results that look completely natural. Dental porcelain also has the same translucency as real tooth enamel. Once installed, your veneers will look totally natural and perfect.

The number of veneers you need will depend on your aesthetic desires and oral health. Using veneers to whiten your smile, for example, would entail placing them on all the visible tooth surfaces in your mouth. Meanwhile, only one or two veneers should suffice to conceal a dental gap or address issues with a specific couple of teeth.

Our Veneer Procedure

Step 1) The Consultation

This meeting with one of our cosmetic dentists is to develop your treatment plan. The dentist evaluates your current oral health and discusses your aesthetic goals, and how many veneers you might need to achieve your desired results. Dental X-rays may be necessary to assess the health of your underlying tooth structure.

Step 2) Getting Started

Your teeth will be prepped for your veneers at this appointment. After you receive a local anesthetic, your dentist removes enough tooth structure to make sure the veneer makes a flush bond against your tooth. Although veneers are not reversible, the actual amount of tooth structure removed is minimal.

Next, a member of our staff takes impressions of your teeth. These impressions serve as a guide in the construction of your veneers. Meanwhile, you will receive a temporary restoration to wear while our dental lab fabricates your permanent veneers.

Step 3) The Results

This appointment usually takes place about two weeks after the prep. You return to our cosmetic dentist office in Lake Forest when the laboratory returns your completed veneers. We will check your veneers to make sure they fit properly and maintain your bite alignment, making adjustments as necessary. Then comes the big reveal! We ensure you are completely satisfied with your results.
